As I just posted about it at RN, I thought it will also be an interesting discussion over here, lets see what you think on trenches.

I will post some thoughts later, just wonder what you will say.

When I was first getting use to playing as the British I seemed to build trenches all the time.  They are especially useful on maps with no buildings to garnish troops in.  But now I hardly use them at all.  A few flaming grenades from PE, or grenades from Riflemen make them not that effective.  Plus you waste a whole squad of men sitting there not helping the battle.

I still can see using them early to establish a defensive position, but late game they become kinda ineffective as your enemy typically has a counter to them.

The only advantage to them is that they don't cost anything, and you can delete them once you realize that your opponent has a counter to them.  So early game they can be quite useful to help defend a VP or high fuel or munition. Just be careful using them, and watching them cause when your enemy drops troops in there you also have to work on a counter to get them out or destroyed.

I only dislike the "99%" build trench, if all could finish it it would be fine, but now the only downside (build time") is negated by this. Ohh, and remove commandos ability to build them too now that we can make a wish list.

I rarely, if ever, build them. I choose to play the brits offensive, and actually rarely use emplacements either.  I find that, unless it's a very small map, you have to build a lot of 17 pounders to protect against tanks, and have to protect all of them with troops. I'd rather have 2 or 3 mobile fireflies, and be aggressive with my troops.

Playing against them, I find it tough, but I usually ignore them at the start. I'm finding, more and more, that the brits trenching in makes them unaggressive and it's not impossible to break even the most trenched in Brit.

I build them from time to time, but never ever somewhere near my base.
I tend to build them right next to the enemy base in the early game, it works quite good as  they don't have flamers yet.If they throw a grenade i just pop out and wait for it to explode, and then get back in.

Though this tactic doesn't always work, it's realy hard to do when you are playing against very good players.

I sometimes use the trenches early in the game but German snipers always take the squads out one guy at a time, making them obsolete mid game.
