Plants vs. Zombies is a very simplistic and enjoyable tower defense game where you protect your house from an army of zombies who want to eat your brain.  They will accomplish this feat if they reach your house, and your job is to make sure they don’t.  Your weapons to stop them?  Plants of course.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CHAbHz8iYHc

Your main weapon is a standard pea shooter that shoots peas at the approaching zombies.  Your lawn is made up of six rows where the zombies roam across with the intention of making it to your house.  Your job is to protect your house by planting a wide variety of cute and interesting plants that attack these zombies.

Your need income to purchase these different plants, and you get income from the sun.  You also must plant sunflowers which helps you capture more sunlight to earn you more money to purchase more plants.  A very simplistic concept that almost seems too easy when you first begin playing, but soon the zombies get more creative and harder to kill.  Luckily as each level progresses you get access to more interesting plants to help you fight them off.  There are 48 different kinds of plants with numerous offensive, defensive, and production capabilities, and a total of 26 different zombies.  After a short while the action gets quite hectic as your screen is full  of zombies and plants.

Soon the plants realize that the daytime is a bad time to attack you since the sun gives you so much income, so they change things up and start to attack you at night.  But you have a new mushroom that helps attract sunlight even in the dark, but your income becomes less so things get a bit more difficult.  Soon fog rolls in to cover half the screen to prevent you from seeing what row and type of zombie is coming.  This becomes increasingly more fun and exciting as you frantically try to protect your house.  Then they try to approach your house from the back lawn where you have a swimming pool that requires lily pads to have plants float on the water.  It gets more fun and ridiculous as you make your way through the many levels in the game.

The graphics of the game are good and colorful.  The zombies and plants are very cartoonish, and  are not gruesome and scary like zombies in Left 4 Dead.  The whole family can enjoy playing this game.

The controls are very easy and simplistic.  You basically drag and click your plants from the top of the screen and click them down on the lawn where you want them.  I showed this game to my Mother last time she was over for a visit, and she even had no problem playing the game and having fun.  The music and sound effects are fun, and also add to the enjoyment.

There is also quite a lot of side missions and mini games to play and complete after you have completed the main part of the game.  This makes this game extremely fun to play for many hours.  It has become a favorite game my wife Monica plays, and she still has yet to fully complete every side mission and mini game after many hours.  You can purchase this game for only $9.99 on Steam. This makes this game a very good value in my opinion, and fun to show family and friends who aren’t exactly gamers when they come over to visit.

I would highly recommend this game.  I give it 4 ½ stars out of 5.  It is very fun and addictive to play, and I am sure you will have many hours of enjoyment.

I talked to Hangman yesterday and he said he bought this game the other day based on the review.  He just started playing it when I was talking to him on teamspeak.

I hope you are happy with the purchase, and my review.  Please let us know what you think of the game.  :-)
